The Tocquevillian and Daily Pundit have brought to light the latest disgusting behavior of some in our school system. According to WABI, some members of the education establishment have been taunting children of the deploying solders!

The following is a letter received by a member of the Maine National Guard after complaining to the military about schools demeaning the role of the deployed parents:

Thank you for your interest on this most troubling matter. Our Family Assistance Centers have reported cases from Aroostook County to Southern Maine. We are reluctant to give out specific schools and the individuals involved in the interest of giving the education community a chance to address the problem itself. Also, parents wanted the opportunity to pursue the issue through their local school boards first.

In all, we have over thirty complaints that name schools and individual principals, teachers and guidance counselors. If one considers that these complaints come from just the parents who attended our briefings and only from children who told their parents, we are concerned that the problem may be more widespread than we know.

We are recording the complaints, and I will personally visit these educators to express our concern as a professional organization and ask for their cooperation.

Ultimately, our main concern and first responsibility is the safety of our children during these uncertain times. Maine has a core of dedicated and professional educators, but we will challenge any individual who places our children at risk due to their own political ideologies

Given the destruction of our public school system by the left, and the presence of idiotarians (well… and idiots - see how hard it is to get into a “college of education”) in our schools, this sort of behavior is, sadly, not surprising.

Those responsible need to be run through some Sensitivity Training ( educrats love this sort of stuff). This training should include all aspects of the military experience, so that they can better identify with the students and their military parents. This means boot camp (including PT), and deployment to a combat zone. Heck… these folks could be human shields for OUR soldiers (except we don’t need them)!
Although the left likes to forget this, the First Amendment guarantees the freedom of speech of the governed. It does not guarantee the freedom of speech of members of the government (i.e. teachers) in their jobs. It is time to elect some school board members with cajones who will kick out these disgusting lame-brained idiots.

And, of course, it is time for everyone to be Pro-Choice - about school vouchers!

[A CLARIFICATION: No, I don’t really think these folks are traitors… but I couldn’t resist the word play. I do think they are immature, insensitive and unprofessional, and shouldn’t be allowed any closer to children than Michael Jackson!]

    John,

These folks who are doing the taunting should be fired. Period.

There will be some stupid teachers just like there will be stupid soldiers, truck drivers, and whatever. I came from a heavy constuction background into teaching and have generally found teachers to be fairly conservative in most of their views. The Pro Choice with vouchers is what gets my interest. All I hear is the supposed competition mantra. It is a hoax, believed by all too many. The prochoice really is based upon the ability to discriminate by any means an educational institution chooses. If it was to be true open competition, with both sides competing under the same rules, I would say bring it on, it will help us all. Sadly this is not what they mean when they say prochoice or competition. Private school educators fear this type of system and the smart ones don’t want it. It has been interesting in my short career to see how the educators in the country have been targeted as the bad people in our country. In my city they are the Sunday school teachers, recreation program coaches, volunteers on most projects, and many other community building efforts. How did they get to be the bad people? Our schools are run by lawyers and politicians who couldn’t teach a rock to sit still and be quiet. As a teacher one of my most common questions is, “Who made up this stupid law or mandate?” Unfortunately in our society today our schools are asked to do many jobs they were never intended to do and so they may do them poorly. If true educators were allowed to run our schools it is just possible we would see some common sense changes. Instead all we get is standardized testing and the Every Child Left Behind Act. Both of these will be unfunded mandates that will serve no real educational purpose other than to waste more money in foolish ways. I will continue to do my job to the best of my ability and I will make some mistakes, we all do. I believe that any child,in any of my classes, may be the one to save mankind and it is my job to do my best to see that they get the opportunity to do so. The decision to have universal free public education made over 150 years ago is what has made our country great. Prior to that only a small percentage of our people were educated in private schools. I still believe it is the hope for our future. I may not agree with many of your points but you do a great job of making people think, something we need. Thanks for the time. DE
