Transportation Stupidity Administration – Pilots and Guns
Posted By John Moore on February 23, 2003
Now let me get this straight… You have an airline pilot, who is authorized by the federal government to fly a weapon of mass destruction loaded with civilians. This pilot has had extensive training, is usually ex-military, and has to take regular physicals and other tests to assure his continued competence and responsibility.
Now he wants to carry a gun in the cockpit as a last ditch defense measure. The Transportation Security Administrationo wants him to:
- Go through a comprehensive health evaluation (in addition to his regular flight physical??)
- Have a mental health evaluation (in addition to his regular flight physical??)
- Have background checks
- Have 5 days of marksmanship training
- When he isn’t in the plane, keep the gun in a locked box inside of other luggage so nobody will know he has it.
So …. they are afraid that this guy who already has the power to fly a huge plane into a nuclear power plant will do somthing dumb with a gun? They think he needs marksmanship training to shoot someone coming through a door three feet away? They imagine that when people see a pilot with a heavy piece of hand luggage, they will somehow be fooled into believing he isn’t carrying a gun in it?
Oh, and they want to spend $500,000,000 for this program and expect it to go very slowly.
I’ll bet the NRA would do it quickly and for free!
It sounds like the Transportation Stupidity Administration!
it Boggles The Brain®.
The system was down for backups from 5am to 10am last Saturday.
