Council of Midgets

The United States strongly believes that the Iraqi regime represents a threat the us. The Security Council will judge what we can do about it – at least what “the world” will approve.
So here we are, begging for a vote from nations like Guinea. Guinea? Does anyone even know where it is on the map? Does anyone even care? This mighty world power of eight million people, far removed from Iraq, has a vote on the Iraqi issue – on how the United States defends itself!
And then we have Angola, another great global power of ten million people. Well, at least they have oil. They have a slighlty democratic regime with a long history: 4 years. They too will judge whether the US is allowed to defend itself.
How about Cameroon? This important world spokesman, with 16 million people, also has, you guessed it, a vote on our fate.
Then there’s Chile. One wonders how they are threatened by Islamofascist terrorism! Yep – they too get a vote.
Syria? Well, they certainly have an interest in Iraq, since they are also ruled by a brutal Baathist dictator, are Iraq’s neighbor and are sponsors of terrorism. They too have a vote on how we defend ourselves against Iraqi weapons of mass destruction.
Other nations with a vote: Bulgaria, Britain, Spain, Russia, Pakistan, Mexico, Germany and, yes, France.
Anyone who pays attention to the makeup of the Security Council must recognize that it is a council of midgets, a group mostly composed of randomly chosen nations, many of no importance whatsoever.
Why is it so critical for the US to adhere to the dictates of this motley group? Only fools know!
Council of Midgets: An interesting comment and together with some of the other comments on these pages just goes to cement the view most Europeans have of our American friends. It’s a well known fact that a vast majority of Americans have never left their own country, let alone the state they live in. So it doesn’t amaze me that you may not be able to find most of these places on a world map. I’d be very impressed if President Bush could find Iraq on a world map, let alone form a justified case for war.
Its interesting to note some of the views in these pages because, like many other nations, France, Germany, Great Britain. The USA was a major contributor to Iraq’s WMD’s especially those that Mr D Rumsfelt so skilfully negotiated the sale of back in the 80’s.
Its also interesting to note the distinct lack of any evidence as to WMD’s which are left in Iraq. It may be the case that Saddam is playing his old games. It may be the case that the USA and Great Britain have valid evidence. But, after months of talks, UN meetings, newsreel after newsreel, we have yet to be shown any hard evidence as to the existence of such weapons.
Mr Blair may well be the favourite foreign leader in the States right now. . . but if the British public was allowed to choose whether we supported the USA on the Iraq question, I can assure you we would be voting a resounding NO. Opinion is running about 80% against war.
I think there is a very strong case for UN inspectors going to the USA and checking up on what they have? If any other foreign power acted like the states, dipped out of environmental treaties, ignored non-proliferation agreements then all hell would break out. . .
Why is American so different?
Why are they so blind as to the damage their current President is doing and how little support you have throughout Europe? Only 24% of British citizens support war against Iraq if UN agreement is not reached. . .
just wanted to say nice site!
