Geraldo’s Greatest Adventure
Sat March 22nd, 2003 21:00 MSTGeraldo Rivera has been a cheezy lefty since his days as a New York lawyer for leftist causes.
I have come to the conclusion that after 9-11 he actually changed from a wacky lefty to a wacky non-lefty. He said that 9-11 really changed his attitudes, and I believe him. He even expressed regret tonite for his past participation in anti-war demonstrations during the Vietnam War.
I have also concluded that Geraldo is engaged in “Geraldo’s Greatest Adventure” and has been so ince the start of the Afghan War. He took quite a pay cut to join Fox and go to the war zone. He loves hanging out with the military guys and seeing action, and I love watching him do it… I can share his greatest adventure; he and I are pretty much the same age. Hey, Geraldo, need a broadcast engineer???
I watch Geraldo, and I cringe when he makes various silly statements, but I enjoy his adventures, his video and his attitude (which is now extravagantly pro-American).
[Update 3/31/03 - Various news outlets are reporting that the US Military has kicked Geraldo out of Iraq after he apparently give away too much operational information in his enthusiasm.]
I caught that segment tonight and thought it was pretty funny, too. The 1st Brigade commander from the 82nd, Colonel Campbell, was my battalion CO when I was an S2 with the 25th ID. I couldn’t help thinking that he was probably looking at Geraldo and thinking “Dude, I could strangle you with my boot lace right now on national TV!” and “Please, don’t hug my Sergeant Major in front of the men.” But like you I find Geraldo to be a guilty pleasure.
I used to also dislike Geraldo, but I started watching him on Fox News about a year ago and I changed my mind about him, I think he’s an honest reporter now (not the crazy talk show host that I used to think of him as being).
Still, I get a good laugh seeing him among the troops in Afganistan (with his black cowboy hat).
Geraldo’s Emotional…whattaya expect?? He’s Latin! Not everybody has to be as stiff and dull as us whiteys. He’s always a nice change of pace to me.
I was staying in the Sheraton Addis in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in January, 2002. The Sheraton Addis is the closest 5-star hotel to Mogadishu, which at the time it looked like we were going to invade. One morning, I came down to the breakfast buffet, and there was Geraldo, in a bathrobe, yanking all the chocolate croissant.
Also staying at the Sheraton Addis was a French (of course) brigade command staff acting as UN observers on the line of control between Ethiopia and Eritrea. Every morning from there on out, the UN guys would be sitting at breakfast in their frilly little blue girl scout hats, and Geraldo would come bopping in in his bathroom, and would stop and salute them.
Geraldo does not cut a convincing figure when sucking up to (even marginal) military types.
Geraldo has been located…
Out of Afghanistan, he is now traveling with the 101st Airborne. The only question I have is wether or not…
Geraldo is really Jerry Rivers.
Hey Geraldo is really Jerry Swartz. He just left my X-husband and the rest of the gang in Afganistan. Remember it’s all about ratings people. There is a lot under the bridge. I find him to be more of an actor than a reporter.
