First we had the amazing pictures of US Special Forces operators charging into combat on the horseback, ready to direct high tech weapons from their low tech mounts.

Now we have an Israeli helicopter defeating a donkey cart!

“Modern” warfare is weird when you are fighting barbarians!

The good news: The Hamas terrorist monster on the donkey cart was killed.

The bad news: So was the donkey.

The attack was in response to a Palestinian attack, using a new generation of home made rockets, against the major Israeli city of Ashkelon.

From the Jerusalem Post:

In a press conference Thursday evening, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon called the missile attack on Ashkelon “a significant escalation”. “I have instructed the minister of defence to
take all necessary steps to avoid such actions
in the future,” said the Prime Minister.

“The Palestinian Authority and all of the terror organizations who were involved with the attack on Ashkelon today, have no understanding as to the extent of how the IDF will respond,” a senior military source told The Jerusalem Post.

“No democratic country in the world would ignore a terror missile attack on one of its major cities. We will respond and when we do we expect to have the support of all countries who are engaged in a war against global terrorism which threatens innocent civilians,” the source said.

To an outside observer, it would appear that the Palestinians are intent on being driven entirely out of Gaza! They have been developing longer range capability for a while, with the sole intent of attacking civilians (the rockets are too inaccurate to represent useful military weapons).

If they continue to use long range weapons from Gaza against Israeli civilians, Israel will have little choice but to drive them out or to use counter-battery fire which would no doubt kill many “innocent” (I use the word skeptically) Palestinians.
