We Know Who Bought the Cookies at SMU

Sun September 28th, 2003 11:06 MST

As widely reported, The Young Conservatives of Texas had a bake sale at SMU in which the cookies were offered at different prices, depending on the race and gender of the buyer.

The sale, a guerilla theater protest of affirmative action, was shut down by university officials, who apparently allow only the left, racial preference groups, and admission policies to offend people.

“We thought it would be a good idea just because we were trying to raise awareness of affirmative action,” said David Rushing, chairman of the Young Conservatives of Texas on ABCNEWS’ Good Morning America

“It’s no more hurtful than college administrators’ affirmative action admissions programs,” Rushing said.

The price was $1 for white males, $.75 for white women, $.50 for Hispanics and $.25 for blacks.

It had been reported that only three cookies were sold, raising $1.50. Simple mathematics shows that at least one member of a favored group must have bought a cookie, leading to the obvious question: how many cookies were sold to members of the “offended” favored groups?. Naturally, the professional media failed to ask this potentially embarrassing question, so we did.

In an email response to Useful Fools, David Rushing, chairman of the Young Conservatives of Texas, wrote:

We sold one cookie to a white student, and 2 cookies to black students. To my knowledge, no cookies were stolen.

Hmmm…

Did They Get YOUR Number from the National Do Not Call List?

Many people, including myself, have signed up for the National Do Not Call Registry. But right now, if you’re getting extra calls, it may be because your number is on that registry.

New Addition to the Blogroll

Sat September 27th, 2003 11:26 MST

I’ve added The Everlasting Phelps to my blogroll, in the hopes that his outstanding political statements are more frequent than his crude wit. Besides, anyone who owns the domain name “donotremove.net” is worth a look! He is also apparently another lawyer blogger. At this rate, I’m going to have to add a lawyer section to my blogroll.
[CORRECTION: see comments. He is not a lawyer. Oops! You can’t believe everything you read.]

Thanks to Kevin at Smallest Minority who also needs to return to my blog and answer my question on his comments about lions. Oh, and I suspect Kevin is a lawyer too. Scary.

Lions to Guard Townhouse Complex Construction

Fri September 26th, 2003 23:21 MST

After several arsons by the so-called Earth Liberation Front, developer Haynes and Draper has announced a plan to use African lions to guard against arson at the construction site of their new 500 unit townhouse complex near Point Loma in San Diego.

Bravo! I think it’s about time that somebody stood up to the ELF terrorists, and it would certainly be ironic if a few ELF’s were became the food for these natural carnivores.

ACLU Honors Islamofascists

Fri September 26th, 2003 18:24 MST

There are many reasons why I consider the ACLU one of the most dangerous organizations in the United States. The worst is their predilection to only protect the rights of the left and of enemies of America.

Leftism, Libertarianism and IQ

Fri September 26th, 2003 16:25 MST

In Dissecting Leftism, Dr. John Ray attacks the claim that the Leftism of college professors is the outcome of their high intelligence. He counters that Mensa, whose only membership requirement is an IQ in the top 2%, has a disproportionately Libertarian membership.

Al Qaeda / Iraq Ties - Details

Thu September 25th, 2003 12:07 MST

With the current squabble about whether the battle of Iraq was justified and part of the “War on Terrorism”, Samizdata points to a large amount of evidence of longstanding and recent cooperation between Al Qaeda and Iraq. Check it out.

And for those who still whine “it’s all about the ooiilllllllll” - hey, it would have been far cheaper to steal Venezuela’s oil if that was our interest. They are a major oil producer, are a lot closer, have a very unfriendly (Castroite) government, and don’t have much of a military.

Mental Health of Refugees

Thu September 25th, 2003 09:52 MST

John Ray comments on a recent study showing that Bosnian refugees who came to Britain to escape the war ended up worse-off psychologically than those who stayed.

Perhaps it was because they were subject to the rapidly increasing violent crime rate in Britain!
