CBS to Smear Ronald Reagan

Tue October 28th, 2003 10:17 MST

The left, self righteous advocates of peace and cooperation, never forgive and they never forget their hatred of their enemies. Now, as Ronald Reagan, deep into Alzheimers, is unable to defend himself, they reportedly are preparing a merciless attack on him and his ideas, to be aired on CBS during sweeps season.

This has resulted in a movement to boycott the advertisers of this typical Hollywood left wing product. The boycott web site is BoycottCBS.com.

If reports are to be believed, CBS is plannning a “docudrama” that seriously distorts the history of The Gipper and his wife, with the distortions calculated to damage his reputation and ruin his legacy. Advance information indicates that Reagan is shown as a homophobic religious bigot (which is contrary to the facts), as having Alzheimers in 1984, and various other lies. And of course the propaganda-drama also attacks the entire conservative movement. That it is likely to be bad (both in political slant and drama) is indicated by Barbara Streisand’s association with the project.

Personally, I don’t like the idea of boycotting as a result of something I haven’t yet seen. It smacks too much of censorship (by pressuring advertisers) and premature judgement. So I’m going to watch as much of this as I can stand, and if it lives down to expectations, then I’m going to join the boycott campaign at BoycottCBS.com and do my part to educate the advertisers. Of course, if a polling organization asks what I am watching, I’m going to tell them Fox News, not CBS, but then that is my standard policy anyway!

Also see here and here for more.

And thanks to Edward at Zonitis for the tip.

Ya know, i’m as worried about this as anyone, but personally i’m offended when people start staging boycotts and getting up in arms about things that they haven’t even seen yet. It’s all over the b’sphere… but nobody knows for sure yet…

Does this accomplish anything at all? Or does it merely feed the hype monster?

Perhaps it does both… but who is getting the bigger bang for the blogosphere buck?

    /me thinks we’re being had…

It shows the irrelevance of the democrats, over 50 years no new ideas, but still the same bad demeanor. They can only hurt President Reagan now, since he can not reply with his once unequeled wit.

the network that was once proudly the home of edward r. murrow has now become the home — no, change that — has become the intellectual slum of mr. and mrs. barbra streisand and their ignorant ilk. cbs no longer really has a reason to exist. dan blather, when he can remember the frequency, is doing his best to destroy it and we can perhaps all speed the process by boycotting the sponsors of the reagan smear. good riddance to bad rubbish.

I will boycott CBS and it’s sponsors. I’ll also tell my friends, relatives, neighbors, aquaintances, and even people I will meet in grocery stores, everywhere I’ll go. I know CBS is a Liberal network so to smear a conserve President is deplorable. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Where there’s smoke there is fire. It’s too late to sweeten it now with cutting scenes. I won’t watch it if Nancy disapproves. I don’t believe in kicking a man while he is down. My advise is to forget it, at least for a few years. Yes, I will boycott CBS, their sponsors and the “Strisands”. What were you thinking?????

The Reagan miniseries is so clearly a cruel ideological hatchet job that, we will ban CBS and all advertisers on that program from our home.

If they think we will forget, consider that Nestle products are still banned from this household, many years after their cynical effort to replace mother’s milk in third world countries.

It doesn’t surprise me that the fascist liberals at CBS would try to trash a conservative icon like Ronald Reagan on his death bed. It’s what the morally bankrupt fascist liberal establishment prides itself in doing.

I’ve been somewhat in the middle on this - I also feel uncomfortable taking a position on something that hasn’t shown yet. More than a few times I’ve seen stories about parents attempting to ban library books, based on what they HEARD about the book. Their statements, when discussing books I have read, are almost always far from reality.

On the other hand, it is clear that there were some flatly untrue and inflamatory statements in this movie. Also, the producers didn’t bother to involve the family or many others who know Reagan well. They shouldn’t be required to make something that the Reagan family would like, but surely they should have been a source of information, or at least ASKED to participate.

Anyway, the latest stories seem to indicate that CBS has made major cuts, but may be shuffling it off to Showtime anyway. That suggests it is so far out there that it can’t be fixed.

I am an Italian who has always admired Ronald Reagan as one of the greatest Presidents in U.S. history and I find such CBS smear miniseries about him a disgrace worthy of a communist or islamic fundamentalist country…

Unfortunately, since a madman like Bill Clinton had the opportunity of sitting at the White House, America has no longer been the same…

But I will never lose my hope it will again be the beautiful country it was in Reagan’s times…

That day, such defamatory garbage will be simply banned…

I remember as a child, I was so upset when Reagan was elected president. His presidency was so ‘over the top’ with his silly gestures and remarks. It would be almost comical since America now more or less acknowledges that the President had alzheimers during his presidency and even more sad his staff foolishly would not relinquish power to the V.P. after the assination attempt and an operation in his second term. Did America learn its lesson? NO! not with George W in the whitehouse and sadly America did not learn its lesson from Vietnam. America, a nation of slow learners.

No one om El Salvador weeps for RW Reagan.

Ding dong, the bastard’s gone! He couldn’t have died soon enough or painful enough to make up for all the evil and pain he inflicted on people while he was in the white house.

So Ronald Reagan is finally dead. Nancy really needs to save her strength. He was a poor actor and a fascist president indeed. Not to mention had his fair share of mass murder with Bush Sr. in the good old days. Always asking for more money to fund the Contras…Sounds like George W in the Iraq War we never asked for.

I’m sorry but Reagan should have died a long time ago, If only John Hinckley had gotten a little bit closer when he shot reagan, Oh Well, we can only dream.
