An Iraqi on the London Demonstrations
Sun November 23rd, 2003 09:34 MSTZeyad, blogger of Healing Iraq writes:
I was ashamed and depressed watching those brainwashed and deluded demonstrators in London carrying signs calling for abandoning Iraq and for an end to aggression. While I can understand people who hold peaceful principles against wars in general but nevertheless wish to see Iraq free and prosperous, I fail to understand the logic behind the thinking that appeasing and understanding terrorists will make this world a better place. It was all the same ‘No blood for oil’, ‘Not in my name’, ‘Bush is Hitler’, ‘Stop the war’, ‘End the occupation’, ‘Bring the troops home’ nonsense over and over again. It was almost like one of our masira’s in the dark times of the previous regime. If those people truly dislike Bush they should have kept their mouths shout about other issues which they can never understand and sticked to anti-Bush slogans. The only thing that warmed my heart was watching different self-respecting people carrying banners that said ‘Mr. Bush you are most welcome, this lot does not speak for me’. I ditto that and add that this lot surely does not speak for Iraqis either. I’m sure Saddam is proud of you and clapping his hands in glee watching from whatever gutter he is hiding in right now. The fact that Al-Arabiyah station decicated two whole hours covering these demonstration while not a single subtitle about the anti-terrorism crowds marching in Iraq only disgusted me the more.I guess those demonstrators chose to ignore the hundreds of innocent Turk Muslims and Jews that were killed and maimed the last few days in Istanbul, the Italian peacekeepers in Nassiriyah, the Lebanese families in Saudi Arabia, the Iraqi police, school children, UN and Red Cross workers in Baghdad, the Iraqis that were praying in Najaf, the Spanish tourists in Casablanca, the demonstrating students in Iran, and decided to spill tears for the poor Iraqi militants, the innocent Taliban, and the peace loving leaders of Hamas and Islamic Jihad. Why the hypocricy? Why the double standards? Someone seriously needs to teach these people the mechanisms of cause and effect. They are having it all jumbled up in their topsy-turvy view of the world. I can only say SHAME on you.
Read the whole thing.
How do you explain to someone like Zeyad that the “anti-war” protests aren’t really about Iraq, and that in fact the organizers of same don’t give a damn about him or his country? Sure, there are some principled people who are against war, but now that the regime-toppling part is over, even they can’t easily justify opposing our current efforts to stem a violence that is costing mostly Iraqi lives.
I’m waiting for the next Leftist Hollywood type to travel to Baghdad, a la Sean Penn, to “learn for theselves” what’s really going on. I’ll wait equally in vain for the next wave of “peace shields” to put their lives on the line protecting ordinary Iraqis from the dead-enders and Islamofascists who are doing most of the killing, and all of the intentional killing.
Hey, you know, I protested in D.C. against the war. The reason I went is because I didn’t want to see thousands of innocent people die, I didn’t want to see the US exacerbate the problems in the MidEast, and I didn’t want him to provoke MORE terrorism. Now, there are thousands of people in other countries who hate our guts. I can’t blame them. The resistance fighters in Iraq aren’t doing it for Saddam, but because they want Iraqis to run their own government, not a government controlled by the US and US-appointed exiles who don’t even speak Arabic well (Some of them really don’t). I can’t blame them, I mean, if I lost relatives due to gunfire by US soldiers, or had my house raided or my car run over by a tank, I’d probably do the same.
James,
Ya know… invincible ignorance (you are the same guy who in another comment didn’t know that Muslims were people who believe in Islam) is nothing to brag about. If you want to know how the Iraqis feel, read what they are saying, like zeyad, who condemns your demonstrations. And if you really believe what terrorists say are their motives, you are as naive as you are ignorant.
Did you know that almost every household in Iraq lost at least one person to execution under Saddam? Do you have any idea what it is like to live under such a regime? That is not happening any more.
Go read the Iraqi links on the blog log of my blog. You will find one who is critical in a whining way, one who is anti-American, and a bunch who are damned glad that nobody paid attention to your pathetic little demonstration.
I also attended an anti-war demonstration. In fact, I’ve a little prior experience, having visited some after I returned from Vietnam after serving my country in Vietnam. The same combination of ignorant fools and crazies are there today as there were then. Which are you?
