CBS Propaganda (Again and again… and again…)

Thu December 11th, 2003 17:42 MST

CBS Evening News reported on the US’s rejection of anti-coalition countries as possible prime contractors in Iraqi reconstruction. This was obviously done by the administration as a powerful act of diplomacy, punishing those who obstructed our efforts and cost the lives of our soldiers and rewarding those who helped.

To CBS, this was a terrible deed. The report stated that it “unnecessarily offended” Germany, France and Russia.

Unnecessarily? Is this a news broadcast or an editorial? Obviously, it is the latter.

The report closed with “The war in Iraq was supposed to be about terror. Right now it is about money.”

Again, a vicious editorial judgement.

And remember, CBS has First Amendment rights that you and I don’t enjoy! They can say anything they want about the administration or its critics, with as much bias as they choose. But if we try to buy time to counter it, we may end up in jail, thanks to McCain-Feingold and the recent ruling on “Campaign Finance Reform” by the ImperialSupreme Court!

It has become terribly clear that CBS is “one of them.” Unfortunately, the other major broadcast media are positioned about the same way.

Hold tight to the Internet. There’s little other hope for a return to real, objective American journalism.

Hi, you’re complaining about CBS? You should watch European coverage. They don’t even mention the fact that it’s all about U.S. money. Some newsroom guest told so at 11pm on state TV(Czech Republic)but nothing else. Worse then that, nobody controverts KGB made disinformations about USA arming Iraq in 80’s or “everything is due oil”. When you search the web (Accuracy In Media or Washington Times) you’re able to find racional conclusive denial of these lies but nothing from U.S. authorities. I know it’s not their work to do so but these disinformations are really lethal to public opinion. To understand roots of anti-U.S. hate read George Orwell’s Notes on Nationalism

You think CBS is bad, check out the Post editorial from this morning. They open with, “YES, OF COURSE, President Bush’s latest initiative on Iraq is arrogant and self-defeating.”

They don’t give up without referring to a comment by the President of the United States as a “puerile taunt”.

The critical difference is that the Post writing is identified as an editorial. The CBS ranting was in a normal “news” article - not labelled as news analysis or opinion.

As my brother, who took journalism from a liberal but honest J. professor named Calder Pickett would say: “That one would get an F!”
