Randall Parker – Amazing Blogger

Posted By John Moore on July 20, 2003

Here I am, taking a break from a crash programming project (Friday 3PM I heard that the September due date became instead next Wednesday)… so once again I’m browsing blogspaces. I wandered into a couple of Randall Parkers blogs, and the thought occurred to me that they are pretty amazing. I always enjoy Randalls blogs, because there is so much meat and they is so well thought out.

But how does he get the time to do it? And to read all the stuff in various fields necessary to feed the blog vortex (he is obviously a polymath)? Does this guy have a job? Does he sleep?

Anyway, his blogs are always worth a look…

  • ParaPundit … In depth stuff on current events – often missed by other bloggers (like myself).
  • FuturePundit … good science and technology with deeply knowledgeable commentary.
  • TechiePundit … stuff for geeks. I’m a geek… so it’s good stuff for me, although I visit here infrequently – basically I blog for current events.
  • StoryPundit. .. Analysis and sugggestions about entertainment… not my cup of tea (entertainment criticism, that is). Now if I my daughter ever gets around to updating her Celebrity Gossip site, there might be some competition :-)

Anyway, well done, Randall!

  1. Aw shucks.

As it happens I’m a computer programmer too and am up all hours writing in C++, Java, or Basic (at the moment doing a lot of Borland C++ Builder coding but about to do some Access Basic and Java as well). When I ought to be programming I end up going out looking for stuff to write about on the various subjects that interest me. Do I sleep? Yes, but probably not enough. I never turn off my computers and run each browser instance for weeks at a time. I always have articles loaded up waiting to be read in Mozilla Firebird browser tabs.

I really appreciate your compliment. I have no idea what most of my readers think of what I write about. I really do try to come up with original angles on the subjects I cover. I figure there are already plenty of blogs reporting on the most popular news of the moment and I don’t see the sense of blogging unless I can do something different by drawing attention to information that does not get the attention it deserves.

I’ll jump on the bandwagon and join the chorus of praises for Randall. Hell, I was highly impressed with his work on ParaPundit alone. Always has great sources, solid angles, and raises a lot of important questions. Then a few days ago I decided to check out TechiePundit, FuturePundit, and StoryPundit, and I was blown away. Good quality, original commentary is hard enough to come up with for 1 blog, but 4? Unreal.

John was dead-on with his “so much meat” remark. Being new to the blogging game, I’ve found that the most challenging part is cutting all the excess fat and boiling down arguments to a digestible size. Randall does an excellent job of doing just that, and it always makes his stuff a great read.

Keep up the good work fellas.
