Pat Tillman Memorial Visit
Sun April 25th, 2004 02:03 MSTI went down today to the ad-hoc Pat Tillman memorial. For Arizonanas, it’s at the north end of the ASU Stadium.
There were people there continuously, and many tributes had been left. I added my military service ribbons to some others there.
I took some pictures but don’t feel like puitting them up yet.
It was very sad, and I am very sad.
What more can be said?
John, Friday was a tough day for me. I was having fun updating my blog with a couple of anti-Kerry stories, then I surfed over to Drudge and my heart just dropped. I can honestly say it was the worst day for me since just after 9-11. I am pleased and surprised that the story has had some legs nationally.
“I didn’t throw away my medals, I ‘gave back’ my ribbons….”
Anybody having any trouble with that explanation? Anyone out there reminded of our Democratic brothers’ past problems with veracity?
“I never had sex with that woman…Miss Lewinsky….”
“I never lied to the American people…about Jennifer Flowers….”
–”I wasn’t with Miss Kopechnie the night she died. No, rather, I did provide her transportation home….”
Lies, lies…. What’s a country to believe, these days?
–Frankly, as an American military veteran of good standing, I think I’ll take the guy who served in the National Guard, before I take the guy who was an ‘officer’ in my Navy.
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, said they were going to ‘change the world’–and, boy, how they meant what they said….
As a certified Baby-boomer, I’m wondering when my wayward ‘hippie’ brethren are going to at last grow-up. But I’m not staking my fortune on any sudden change of heart on their part….
Robert:
Something certainly has changed, or mutated. For instance, whatever one’s views on abortion, the rally this past weekend was frightening in the hate directed at people other than themselves. It was suggested, among other things that had Barbara Bush and The Pope’s mother had abortions, life would be improved because two fetuses would have been unable to grow to maturity, and oppose them. This is The Left’s version of The Final Solution. In their superstition they will probably deduce some way to tell with infants, maybe with phrenology, that they will be “dangerous adults”.
Death at the source to unacceptable human beings. A fair percentage of this group has degenerated into the type of mentality expressed by Eichman, and even Robert Byrd, in his nauseating column years ago, about how disgusted he would be to have to serve with black people in the military. For dehumanizing hatred, Byrd has no comparison. We have something akin to the Falujah mutilations growing in our midst on The Left. The objects of their hatred no longer qualify as human beings and their hatred is extended beyond death.
Clinton probably didn’t start it, but he opened The Ark. He claimed his administration would look like America and it ended looking like the inside of a bait-can, with all the squirming, slimy creatures he scraped off the political dumpster. Carville, Begalla, MacAuliffe and the rest. They gave voice to the seething misery at the heart of The Left, their loathing for The Other, their political voodoo and vapidity, egomania and gross moral corruption.
We have reasons to worry. The culture surrounding the Weimar Republic was just as schizoid, with romanticism among the youth and violent corruption elsewhere among the bourgeoisie, with the best of German culture flickering out and, yes, a party of “The Left” subverting the system. The Left periodically raises up some dimwitted political scientist to argue that Naziism was a movement of The Right, but it just ain’t so.
I knew Stills by the way, went to school with him in Florida. Believe me, the guy was a violent delinquent and behaved deplorably at concerts. I loved their music, but like all Lefties, the hypocrisy and contradictions in their lives was never reconciled. The Left forgives everyone on their side; even Stalin and Hillary get a pass.
Rhod,
My daughter was one of the counter-protestors (and if you hear that they got the expected number of “pro-choice” protesters, it’s a lie. They got about half the expected number).
She certainly experienced a lot of hate directed at her. Her response, which she knew would drive them crazy, was to respond with “God bless you.”
I have a great daughter.
John:
Indeed you do.
Your daughter’s response was perhaps the worst thing they could hear and see. A faithful woman doing what she is called upon to do and doing it willingly and with good cheer. Everything they aren’t, in other words.
John,
Good for your daughter.
BTW, what did she observe about the composition of the crowd? There were pre-march reports that the organizers were swelling the ranks by solicitng participation from the whole range of nut-case, people-hating lefty groups. If you are dedicated to keeping people impoverished or prefer saving mosquitoes to children, its not much of a step to cheering their murder in utero.
re: aborting Bush and JPII: Things have gotten nastier. In the 60s, the Good Peaceful People just advised coitus interruptus for LBJ’s father. It’s a bit of an idee fixe for me, but I noticed that the Newspeak behavior of the Dems noted above is precisely what they declare that conservatives do.
How right you are, Sean. The rally was a prolonged Two Minute Hate. How has it come to this? Wasn’t a study done at Berkeley recently which concluded that Conservatives are mentally and emotionally unfit? This is Science in The Public Interest along the old Soviet model. That is, those who disagree with you should be confined in mental institutions…enemies of The State. I think we have an historical model for all this. The Wanderjugend (sp?) in Germany were the European hippies of the 1920’s and 30’s; a scant decade later they were at the vanguard during Kristallnacht. This is not going to end well.
Rhod
My friend (via internet) Dr. John Ray, a retired leading researcher in the psychology of politics, among many other things, blew that study away.
You has a bunch of blogs, but Dissecting Leftism is really good, as is PC Watch. Warning: he is very libertarian, not a conserative. He is also Australian, which means he has their patented sense of humor.
John:
I will read Dr. Ray’s papers as soon as I can. I have my own theories about The Left, but no PhD to legitimize them. Libertarians are okay on many issues…in fact, I used to think of myself as one. No longer.
I had an Expository Writing Professor many years ago who said that “Australians are what Americans used to be, and think they still are.” Clever, but considering how easily they caved in on gun issues, one wonders if Americans are what Australians used to be, and think they still are.
There were a bunch of Australians around us in Vietnam, however, and they were scarier than Charley.
Thanks for the links.
Not long ago, I spoke to an eighty-something gent–born in Warsaw, Poland on the heels of WWI–who explained that he believed conditions in America today chillingly akin to those present in Central Europe, during Germany’s infamous Weimar. “What essentially put Hitler in power,” said the old fellow, “was less the furor over the German Mark’s historic deflation than the violent emergence of the Communist Party in Germany’s city streets….” (This, from a Polish-born American citizen who lived the period, and not Dan Rather or Peter Jennings).
Now, whenever I hear red-faced Frank Lautenberg shouting “Chickenhawk!” or embittered Ashley Judd and Whoopi Goldberg all-too-publicly shrieking for the absolute right to murder innocent unborns, I wonder just how long it’ll be before we’re fighting in our own city streets, a new generation of Rosa Luxembourgs’ and Karl Liebkneckts’ newly-risen from the paltry ranks of our increasingly disaffected left.
After having spent the greater part of ‘67-’70 in RVN as a Marine groundpounder, my idiot older brother came home to join the VVAW. I can still hear the man invoking John Kerry’s ‘great’ name, calling for ‘the overthrow of Nixon,’ the burning of our ‘national rag’ (the American flag). My brother’s gaggle of admirers’ in those days consisted of a few ‘easy’ hippie chicks and a few of my old high school classmates–that is, guys who modeled themselves after John Kerry and his ilk. I was a 15-year old in those days, arguing that my brother’d better turn his life around before it was too late. I was laughed at. I also received a broken nose and shattered eye-orbit for my efforts, and was told that I was “too young and too conservative (read: not cool enough) to understand the ‘real meaning’ of war, peace, and politics.”
Today, partially-blinded in my left eye due to earlier ‘excessive blunt trauma,’ I take little comfort in telling my ‘enlightened,’ newly-conservative 55-year old brother, “I’m glad you finally see the light about Kerry, Nixon, VVAW, and the Black Panthers–problem is, I think people like you waited too long to figure it out.”
Every Kerry photo-op these days features at least a couple of baffled, blank-faced VFW- and American Legion-hatted old boys standing behind our miracle man from Massachussets, and I can’t help think: “What is it you idiots aren’t yet understanding about this man’s radical track record?”
Didn’t mean to rant so erratically, today–it’s just that Lautenberg’s comments set me off, and they were the first thing I heard on CBS this morning. I suddenly feel like striking someone…. I wonder what has become of my old undergrad political science professor?
Robert:
Lautenberg yesterday and Kennedy today. There must have been a call into Buffoon Central. Send up a couple senescent, degenerate freaks. The only thing missing in this spectacle of The Undead was Robert Byrd, but he was probably getting his B-12 shot down the hall.
You sound like a casualty of the war, too. Sadly so. I am with you on the similarity to the U.S. today and the Weimar period in Germany and it effect in wider Europe. I think your Polish acquaintance hit the mark, although the Communists were only one feature of the organized and militant nihilism and anarchism of the period.
The Left in this country represents the same destructive and suicidal mix of cretinous ideology and hatred that rolled across Europe in those years. Scapegoatism is forming among them too, the virulent and ferocious need to externalize their hatred and rationalize the incipient violence among them. It exists in all of them, from Brylcreem Ben Veniste in his gangster pinstripes to the Gargoyle Senators from New York to the Moorlocks at Move-On and Democratic Underground.
We are all waving the warning flag about this thing. My own view is that the next many years are going to consist of a war on Islamofascism abroad and Leftofascism here.
FRIDAY’S COMPENDIUM
I had a rather long compendium written up for today, which has just been erased by the careless press of a key. Here’s some that I salvaged: Switched at birth? John Moore visits Pat Tillman’s memorial. Howard Dean wants his…
