Cuba Commission Recommends Regime Change

Mon May 3rd, 2004 02:09 MST

While the media has ignored it, Cuba has the third largest biotechnology industry in the world, making it a significant potential biological warfare threat. It also has a highly dangerous leader. During the Cuban Missile Crisis, Fidel Castro tried to persuade the Russians to launch Cuban-based nuclear-armed missiles at the United States [note 1].

Until this year, the Pentagon’s threat assessments about Cuba were controlled by a now jailed Cuban agent. Other agents have been found around U.S. military bases. There are likely other Cuban agents still in place in the U.S.

Cuba is one of the two remaining Rogue Communist states, the other being North Korea. Cuba has ties to the international drug trade and is listed by the United States as a state sponsor of terrorism. It is believed to sell equipment suitable for biological weaponry to other rogue states or even terrorists.

Given his hatred of America, the approaching end of his life, his history of recklessness and lack of respect for life, might Castro launch an anonymous biological weapons attack against the United States, expecting that we would blame Al Qaeda?

President Bush appointed a commission last year to make recommendations about freeing Cuba. That commission has just released its report.

One of the five chapters is devoted to ways to end Castro’s government. Recommendations include:

  • A series of measures to cut U.S. dollar flows to Cuba
  • Overcoming the jamming of U.S. sponsored radio and television broadcasts to Cuba
  • Increrased support for Cuban dissidents
  • Measures to encourage foreign governments to distance themselves from the Cuban regime

The other four chapters deal with ways to deal with a post-Castro government which seeks to establish democracy.

I just can’t wait to hear the Democrats howl about this.

The Europeans are likely to be highly annoyed, as we threaten an Island where European patronage of its sex trade is a significant source of national income.

[Note 1: Excerpt - Letter from Khrushchev to Castro - October 30, 1962:

In your cable of October 27 you proposed that we be the first to launch a nuclear strike against the territory of the enemy. You, of course, realize where that would have led. Rather than a simple strike, it would have been the start of a thermonuclear world war.

Dear Comrade Fidel Castro, I consider this proposal of yours incorrect, although I understand your motivation.

It was my vote that did it.

Had (Bush) not had (Cuban-American) support in 2,000, Democrat Al Gore would be president. Yep, it was me, and iffin’ you dont like it, well, you can kiss my Republican Voting Cuban-American ass. Bush receives recommendations to end communist rule…

    John:

How right you are about the Democrats. Think of Chris Dodd and Jimmy Carter without a dictator’s ass to kiss, or Oliver Stone without his own OR Fidel’s to kiss. The entire Hollywood crowd with no murderer and slave camps to defend. Havana to these people is THE theme park, a time capsule, the ultimate movie set actually. They imagine themselves there in white tropical suits, flower-print dresses watching the Revolution. It’s sick.
