Don't Miss Behind the Scenes: Swift Boat Veterans vs. John Kerry

Stop the Censorship Now!

Tue May 11th, 2004 23:37 MST

I am angry tonight. I hope other Americans are also.

Some of us have long understood the depths of the barbarian evil confronting us. Too many others refuse to understand, even after today’s beheading of an innocent American civilian.

At a meeting today with a nice, intelligent businessman of South Asian descent, the subject of the war came up. In his part of the world, he said, all the butchery of war is shown. He was sure that we would never have completed our Iraq invasion if our media showed the all the gore.

Although he lives at least part time in the United States, he believes our media hid those pictures to promote for the war. He doesn’t realize that the majority of our news media personnel were and are against the Battle of Iraq. He doesn’t understand that they hide the gore because they think we cannot handle it.

Our media has decided to act in loco parenti. They don’t want to show mere citizens the full bloody truth. Of course, this hasn’t stopped them from bombarding us with degrading and prurient images from Abu Ghraib. It hasn’t stopped them from bombarding us over and over again with pictures of Americans, not representative of America or our military, badly abusing suspected killers.

This gentleman had a point, although his inference was far from the mark.

Stop the censorship!

Let Americans see the whole picture.

Show the video of the jumpers of 9-11 - all the way to the ground, as often as we had to see the prison photos.

Show the full video of today’s beheading.

Show American civilians risking their lives to rebuild the Iraqi power system.

Show the videos of Iraqi professionals murdered by Ba’athist terrorists in order to derail the rebuilding.

Show the videos of Iraqi tanks destroyed by bombs filled with concrete instead of explosive, to avoid killing the innocent people in the houses near the tanks.

Show the full videos of the Fallujians desecrating the remains of the American civilians they had just killed; show the joy they express in stabbing and cutting and then hanging the remains from a bridge.

Show how little damage was done in order to pacify Fallujiah and show the civilians allowed to flee to safety before that opation.

Show the full video of our wounded soldiers as they fall, suffer or die while fighting those who would rule Iraq by violence.

Show our soldiers risking their lives in combat to avoid unnecessarily killing innocent Iraqis. Show what our firepower could do if we chose to save our soldier’s lives instead of the innocent Iraqis.

Show Saddam’s videos. Make the entire world watch them. Show them as often as the prison videos are shown.

Show the pictures of the Israeli children after they have been murdered by Palestinians.

Show the video of Palestinians dancing with the bloody body parts of Israeli soldiers they have killed. Make sure our multi-culturalists see how those Palestinians respect the Jewish cultural need to bury all parts of their dead.

War is hell. Post 9-11, so is the alternative.

Show us all of the truth!

Let’s see how our citizens balance the events and necessities of this war against the death cult of radical Islam.

I trust our citizens to come to the right conclusions.

Our Censors do not.

Stop the Censorship!

I wish our media “friends” from the left used better judgment and refrained from showing those Abu Ghraib pictures (for now, at least).

because the military is pursuing the abuse case against the guilty soldiers anyway.

anyway, new stuff from Wretchard on Nick Berg, andrew sullivan, Abu Ghraib and the media.

I’ve been wondering why the mainstream media has given so much air time to negative aspects of the war. A friend sympathetic to my frustration just keeps telling me it’s the old “if it bleeds, it leads” rationale, but that reasoning doesn’t cut it with me anymore. Like you, John, I suspect that if they believe the depiction of a horrific act by our enemies helps us - and by extension, the President - stir up more people to support the war on terrorism, they won’t do it. I believe ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, etc. should - with a warning for those with weak stomachs - show Nick Berg’s beheading on the 6 o’clock news. It’s time WE got stirred up!

    Walt,

The new media (with the exception of Fox) is strongly biased towards the Anybody But Bush side.

However, in the case of violence, they have other reasons not to show it - “good taste” - which I don’t understand.

And of course, THEY make the decision sometimes not to show “inflammatory” material.

    THEY are wrong.

    Walt:

I’m stirred up. I haven’t been this stirred up in years. By the way, today is the 12th. Notice the cry of protest from the Arab World about the murder of Rick Berg? Listen real hard. Hear anything? No? You don’t hear a goddamn word from any of them! We hear from the Washington Post and the New York Times that essentially the murder of Rick Berg was George Bush’s fault.

Looks like Karbala, though, is my kind of operation. No more force-field around Mosques, it seems. This is the best news all week. I hope this is the unfolding of a realistic strategy for dealing with this garbage.

I’m emphatically in agreement with all of you on this one: What a sight for sore eyes, thanks to Fox News film crews–’ 20-mm cannon tracers colorfully zinging through night skies, lethally dinging off domed mosques, or modern-day hideouts for bloodthirsty, cowardly murderers.

Within the course of one such film, I think I saw two berobed Iraqi ‘gentlemen’ seeking shelter on a mosque rooftop–and within seconds, more 20-mm fire, and those men were history…. One regret is, Peter Jennings or Dan Rather or New York Times reporters weren’t on that rooftop, conducting yet more interviews with ‘outraged Arabs.’ What a pity. What a terrible pity.

I say, increase the ordnance to 40-mm, and make it armor-piercing and high-explosive, for additional effect.

And do publicly exhibit poor Mr. Berg’s beheading as often as is possible, as Rhod said, as well as frames of innocent civilians leaping to their deaths’ from 110-stories’ high, during 9-11. Do it often, until those yet ‘unconvinced’ begin to smell the coffee. Sometimes a wake-up call is necessary, is it not?

Sixty-two years ago, at Guadalcanal, our fathers were abruptly made aware of the same type of cruelty we’re witnessing today. Those of you whom have read of the ill-fated ‘Geottge Patrol,’ will remember the long-censored descriptions of dead U.S. Marines on a Pacific beachhead, their bodies hacked to pieces, their penises’ severed and stuffed into their mouths. Of such barbarism–and the righteous retribution and victory that followed–legendary Naval historian Samuel Eliot Morison said, “Lucky indeed for America that in this theater and at that juncture she depended not on boys drafted or cajoled into fighting but on ‘tough guys’ who had volunteered to fight and who asked for nothing better than to come to grips with the sneaking enemy who had aroused all their primitive instincts.”

I say, show those old films of 9-11 over and over again until it hurts. We need a revival of those ‘primitive instincts’ of which Morison wrote.

Of course there does exist censorship in USA. The only one reasonable statement of this post is “Stop the censorship!”

“Show the video of the jumpers of 9-11 - all the way to the ground, as often as we had to see the prison photos.” - I have a better solution. Make a high building in Baghdad, put inside it all the Iraqis and crash a B-52 into it.

“Show American civilians risking their lives to rebuild the Iraqi power system”Correction, switch “to rebuild the Iraqi power system” by “to make themselves riches”.

“Show the videos of Iraqi tanks destroyed by bombs filled with concrete instead of explosive, to avoid killing the innocent people in the houses near the tanks.”10.000 civilians died during the war. Obviously, they all should were inside the tanks. Show also the videos of the fearful 18 years old Iraqis forced by the government to be inside the tank blasted in such a smart way. And they knew that they had not even a remote chance.

“Show how little damage was done in order to pacify Fallujiah and show the civilians allowed to flee to safety before that opation.” Yeah, and this unpleased bastards keep in their hate against the invasion troops.

“Show the full video of our wounded soldiers as they fall, suffer or die while fighting those who would rule Iraq by violence.” , i. e., show your soldiers while fighting the Iraqi people in full.

“Show our soldiers risking their lives in combat to avoid unnecessarily killing innocent Iraqis. Show what our firepower could do if we chose to save our soldier’s lives instead of the innocent Iraqis.”-Kill them all, thus, there wont be more innocent Iraqis to kill, and you will be allowed to use your firepower in full.

“Show Saddam’s videos. Make the entire world watch them.”—And by the way, make Saddam giving back all the money that USA gave him to kill Iran people and Kurdish.

“Show the pictures of the Israeli children after they have been murdered by Palestinians.”-Yea, but, please, don’t show the pictures of the Palestinians children killed by the Israelis, this could waste too much paper.

“Show the video of Palestinians dancing with the bloody body parts of Israeli soldiers they have killed. Make sure our multi-culturalists see how those Palestinians respect the Jewish cultural need to bury all parts of their dead”-Actually, this Palestinians are a bunch of pussies and anti-culturalist. They are so fool, that they attack Israeli tanks with stones instead of missiles. If I had to choose, I would choose to be Palestinian. Is the greatest business!! They live among cotton balls, and they don’t stop complaining like old ladies. The fact that for each innocent Israeli killed, 10 innocent Palestinians are killed, don’t piss off to anybody. But at least, the Palestinians are rich….don’t they?

    Vino:

It’s difficult, almost impossible, to find your moral center.

Palestinians? The Palestinians have been manipulated and used by all the disgusting Arab states in the region for sixty years. They have conspired in their own destruction. Their best potential friends are the Israelis, who can offer them a piece of Western civilization if they can ever throw off the dead hands of the Arafats in their midst. Your ratio of dead Israelis to dead Palestinians is ridiculous.

You know, I just decided not to continue with this. You’re beyond persuasion. You lack the capacity to distinguish precipitating events from consequences. The West is divided between those who think that peace is something that must be achieved and those who think that peace is something to be maintained. People like you will MAINTAIN a peace until the killers come for you too.

You’re living the idea of “I didn’t protest when they came for Unacceptable Group One, I didn’t protest when they came for Unacceptable Group Two, I didn’t protest when they came for Unacceptable Group Three, and when they came for ME there was no one left to protest. BUT WHAT THE HELL.I HAD THE RIGHT IDEAS WHILE I WAS ALIVE!”

You lack the capacity to distinguish a Culture of Death from a Culture of Life. Virtually everything that makes your life safe, worthwhile, healthy, and fulfilling was created by OUR culture, not the opposing Way of Life that you emote about in your post.

Your most disturbed fixation is with the concept of “innocence”. Bystanders are not “innocent”. People on The Left routinely use “innocence” as a moral claim to the open space between war and peace. The death of a bystander is TRAGIC, and mixed so thoroughly in the ugliness of war that it is indistinguishable from the death of a solier (who is GUILTY in your formulation, less worthy of life than an INNOCENT bystander).

This is perhaps the most repulsive feature of your moral bafflement. You make judgements of virtue about non-combatants. We know nothing about them, whether they are good or bad people, who they were or what their motives were. Wars kill people, but until now the event of war itself was never fought for the sake of itself. UNTIL NOW, because the Arab cultures you defend and sniffle for are the actors in this drama and are warring for the sake of war. WE were the observers until they started throwing shit into the audience and trying to burn the theatre down with all of us inside. All of us INNOCENT bystanders.

Please don’t try to drench us with your moral certainties. You haven’t thought any of them through. There is no starting or ending point in any of your pieties. Your sanctimony never saved a single life or prevented a single act of evil anywhere, anytime. Wring your hands, feel good about yourself but stay out of the way. Men and women of real moral fiber will do what is necessary to save chattering moral perverts like you from something worse than your stupidity. Wars like this one are necessary because of moral inversions in the Arab World. And they are prolonged by the moral inversions of the Western Left. In the end, people like you are as guilty as the terrorists.

    One more thing Vito:

Your written English locutions and given names seem to suggest foreign extraction. Perhaps European. Welcome to America, if that is where you live.

If you are European, can you explain Italian Fascism to me? Or German Nationalism in any of its forms? Or the mature forms of Marxism-Leninism which blossomed on The Continent? How about the fermenting anti-Semitism in Western Europe? How about explaining that phenomenon called “The French” in all their cupidity and corruption? Suicide in Scandinavia is another excellent topic. And the British National Health Service is a delight for everyone. Let’s not even discuss Irish Nationalism and its complicity in international terrorism.

The Spanish have fled from the Middle East but still occupy Moroccan territory. Why? The Greeks and Cypriots can’t agree on water usage. Why? The French still have ” colonies” treated as malevolently as the official kind. Why? Who are the skinheads? Why do indolent Europeans rely so heavily on Middle Eastern labor? Why? Indolence is laziness combined with bad character, isn’t it? Why can’t Italy keep its telephones operating on a regular basis? That one should piss you off! Why are European Dutch about to become a minority in their own country?
Why are The Turks not considered European to all you non-racist Europeans? Are you European?

I could go on and on, until all the available space is exhausted. Babies come into the world, usually, with a full complement of body parts. Lefty babies enter the world also with a full complement of unexamined prejudices and spend the rest of their lives distributing them to anyone who will listen.

    Rhod,

“Suicide in Scandinavia is another excellent topic.”

I’d not heard about this. Do you have a link? And what is this about Italian telephones?

  11. comment number 11 by: Rhod

    Lindenen:

Both remarks were churlish, but the first had to do with the 1965 book of the same title. A study on the high incidence of suicide in the Scandinavian countries, which as far as I know, remains much higher than international averages. The unassisted kind is now merging with PAS, or escalating physician assisted suicide, and euthanasia in several of the northern countries. SAD has been used as a partial explanation. It’s a scandal taken together with other aspects of these dissolute cultures, which are now under pressure from Third World immigrants across the board. Holland, which is not Scandinavian, seems to have a genuine problem now with Old Dad being put down for reasons of convenience. It’s at least admitted in Holland, but probably the same everywhere PAS exists.

I mentioned Italian telephones as a cheap shot, calling up the image of failed public services in Italy, which is higher there than in other European countries, but unremarkable. I guessed that Vino Tinto (Shaded Wine?) would bristle at this, if he were of Italian origin. I wanted him to do so considering his insupportable claims. “Et vino veritas” does not apply to him.

I assumed he would come back and say that none of the things I mentioned JUSTIFIED American actions throughout the world. That was a trap, because I asked him to EXPLAIN these things. If he could explain them then he has all he needs to know about all kinds of cultural disturbances (not particular to Europe, by the way, but certainly relevant to Europe) and have some insight into how and why things happen here and abroad. The horrors of the last century, excluding natural ones like disease and weather and local ones like American racism, originated in Europe. That counts for something, and if you approach us as Europeans with THAT background, you better have something to say which makes sense.

What I see among Europeans is a habit of ignoring their own history and replacing it with a reflexive ant-Americanism…which is not necessarily part of their “fear” of our power, but simply habitual now. It’s a pan-national idea about the U.S. which evolved, I think out of the facts of WWII, the Cold War and cultural arrogance that, by now, simply exists apart from any evidence to the contrary. I’m sick of it.

There was a time when we had something to learn from Europe because Europeans took themselves seriously. What they take seriously now is the act of taking themselves seriously.

Everyone has chosen a side in this whole incedent and situation. The question still remains? Does one american life pay for all of the casualties suffered by the Iraqi people??? If you are a sane and judging person the answer is no. If you are a Bush fanatic, then you’d probably say yes. Everything we see happening has been done by the American Government. Only in higher numbers. They bombed Pearl Harbor, so we go after civilians and nuke their country. Americans were notorious for beheading Vietnamese after killing them. Do you get the picture? Anyone seen Miss Evers Boys? How about injecting some syphillic into some good ol’ American soldiers. Who is representing all of those people? My grandfather fought in WWII and when he got home from service, there were places he couldn’t go eat in and he couldn’t drink water from. I have to say an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth, and at the rate were going it’ll be a long time before we can live in true peace. One other thing. If the North Korean military was to attack the US and say “We are gonna make it better for you”, how many of you are gonna sit and watch as it happens.

Wake up this is real life and you are in it!!!!

    Ralph -

You are living proof of the value of the First Amendment. Every odious idea and crazed set of delusions should be vented, made public, and exposed to the light of reason. Hidden away and contained in the pressurized cell of the mind, they can be really dangerous to others. Thanks for letting off some steam.

  14. comment number 14 by: Bush Fanatic

    Ralph:

I spent a long time in Vietnam. Believe me, it was a whole lot easier beheading the Vietnamese AFTER we killed them.

[In case you didn’t get it… I never beheaded or saw a Vietnamese beheaded. I was making a point.]

  15. comment number 15 by: Anon

I know of an instance of a beheading in Vietnam. I knew the man. Name, unit, date, and location are not going to be given, for reasons related to the following facts (so no one can deduce the person by any chance) and I’m certain the death notice didn’t describe the event.

He volunteered for LRRP, was on a three day mission with two other guys. Ran into VC, one LRRP killed outright, one dusted off, one captured. The one captured was, among other things, decapitated by the VC. The head was never found.

The Left would describe this as a random and aberrant act by Freedom Fighters. Ralph would describe this as revenge for beheadings on our part. Well, I never encountered another instance like this one, and it was done by the VC.
