Give me a break all this squabling over wether america would be better or worse or unaffected without CA, let me give you the obvious truths here A) california is america's MVP B) Who cares, were not goin anywhere C) One of the reasons CA is americas MVP is because of the cheap labor made avialable to us by mexican immagrants, just as Irish immigrants once did when this country was a tad bit younger D) we do need to tighten up our borders for a number of reasons not all of which are because of the threat of terrorists E)Our brand of entertianment is the result of free speech and discussion, most of which happens in more populated areas. Weve discussed the issues more and come to somewhat more reasonable opinions, and have generally supported freedom over oppression. The more we talk freely the more likely we are to come to a place where we understand that sexuality is not a threat in any mutual adult consentual form, violence can be appreciated by the mature without social degeneration, and that freedom doesn't create anarchy, only a lack of structure and security does.
Also it souns like this 4th of july issue was colored by politicians trying to turn it into a celebration of a truly partisan figure, and for an official celebration supported by public funds and given government sanction to idolify any truly partisan figure as this man clearly is, is just wrong, and irresponsible, especially in a time of election.

DON'T ABANDON CALIFORNIA!!!
Don't let the vocal minority speak for the rest of us. The majority of Californians have spoken with their votes time and again to preserve our borders, our economy, and our national integrity.

Unfortunately our votes are over-ruled, the politicians we vote for represent another nationality (yes, even the republican ones), and the screaming idiots in the streets go on waving their mexican flags while calling all the rest of us racists.

For the record, I'm not a racist; my mexican-american niece would be happy to let you know.

Also, I have nothing against "brown" people coming here and becoming fully integrated Califorian Americans. In my perfect California we would all learn to speak spanish and english fluently from kindergarten on, not "spanglish" or any other mis-use of the word"bilingual" that a politition could dream up.

I have nothing against different people. I'm against folks coming here from a country with rampant corruption (yes, it's worse than here) and a devastated economy which will never work due to pay-offs from top to bottom, who want to "return" California to this same country from which they fled. Don't they get it??? They're going to spoil this state so it's no better than where they came from. Then where will they go?

Then there's the terrorist thing. If we can't secure our borders from hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants, how are we ever going to stop a terrorist from crossing into the U.S. with a bomb and taking out Los Angeles? You know Al Quaida wants nothing more than to accomplish this kind of stuff and I'm sure they're working on this angle right now.

K - you need to get your facts straight. The only reason California wine is popular is because it is cheap, look out California here comes France. Also, I think Kansas produces enough wheat for the US and most of the world. In fact, the Midwest is still the world's breadbasket, which is the only thing the US still holds over the rest of the world. If California were to fall into the ocean, the only change would be where the beach is. Don't flatter yourself by thinking your so important!

"California
California ranked 26th overall in terms of economic
freedom at the all-government level and 40th when its
numbers were compared with other states and provinces,
a drop in both categories from the previous year.
This disparity is refl ected in two of the three areas of
measurement. The state ranked relatively high (13th)
in terms of government size at the all-government
level but fared worse at the state and local level, dropping
to 33rd. The state and local ranking suffers when
compared with all-government numbers in takings
and discriminatory taxation: 39th for the former, and
26th for the latter. The big drop came in labor market
freedom, where it fell to 38th for all-government and
42nd for state and local."

We could always begin getting our wines from Missouri, Arkansas, and elsewhere; many of our leading technology firms have already begun to move east, to Colorado; and few would disagree that we could happily get by without Hollywood's 'brand' of 'entertainment.'

Frankly, no one state is inexpendable--particularly beautiful (though dangerously arid and vastly overpopulated) California.

And fifth-largest economy in the world, you say? So how do you rank these days in the realm of illegal immigration statistics? Still setting national records in this category, as well?

Mark - CA would be just fine, we have the 5th largest economy in the world. The rest of the US however, would feel the loss heavily as the majority of the America's technology, wine, wheat (and other produce), entertainment, etc comes from good ol' Cali.
