New York Times - Dumb as Rocks?

Sun March 6th, 2005 00:35 MST

Unexpected Whiff of Freedom Proves Bracing for the Mideast writes Neil MacFarquhar in the New York Times.

Unexpected? Do they pay attention to trends at all? The Iraqi government and the Bush administration both promised free elections in Iraq on Jan 30th, and they happened.

So what is unexpected? To the Times and the rest of the “main stream media,” any success of any policy by Bush is unexpected - the MSM cannot imagine that Bush might be right - about anything.

Just remember, these idiots are the considered the cream of the crop of American journalism.

Sad, isn’t it?

    John,

The reports from Iraq seem to be mixed. In some cases progress is made, however, in other reports there seems much to be concerned about. Most recently, I have heard of an exodus of field captains. It seems only seems natural that it will be difficult to deploy a volounteer army over a decade. It will be interesting to see to what extendt US foreign policy has taken into account the limitations of a volounteer army.

Other bad news is the continued outrage reported at the recent pictures of Saddam in his underwear, even Bush said it was a bad thing. Iĺl give Bush credit for this.

I will also give Bush credit for a recent speach giving his support to fuel efficient hybrids. Perhaps, he is beginning to recogonize the costs of cars that burn to much fuel. After all there is a finite supply, it has to run out at some time.

Well, kudos to Bush for his recent statements.

It seems that the attaining a stable Iraq is not within reach, at least within the next year. In which case the long term future of US foreign interest looks diminished. China, has made itś deals with Iran, and Venezuela. If Iraq fails, the next half of the next 50 years will go to them, and India.

Well, that is if there is any oil left. In any case it is unfortunate that United States will be so diminished in the years to come.

The United States started on such noble principles. It is a shame to see it fade and wane. Well, even Bush seems to be saying things the world can agree with these days. So perhaps, the future will still find some other path.

    John,
The carnage in Iraq continues, and opposition in the United States grows against the war. The recent poll has 6 out of 10 US citizens are against the war. Recruiment in the military to continues to decline. The republican who introduced “freedom fries” legislation is now against the war. And as for smart bombs, and minimal loss of life, the statement’s are meaning less when “it is policy not to track civilian casualities” - so much for winning over the hearts and minds. You had mentioned Vietnam, it would be interesting here your perspective as to if this endeavor achieved it’s objectives. Was, it worthwhile?
