The Sacred Mystery of Obama - Why Not More Popular?

Mon July 28th, 2008 23:07 MST

For all the media hype and bias, Obama is not doing as well in the mid-summer polls as most Democrat presidential contenders. That has mystified many… but here may be some explanations.

Obama is openly showing remarkable arrogance or narcissism. His act of touring Europe like a rock star, and speaking to a huge crowd of worshipful Germans, doesn’t sit well with those of us who “cling to their guns and religion…” He is acting like the transnational progressive that he is, and only our elites like tranzis.

There is a palpable sense that we are supposed to view him as a messiah, and some of the symbolism used by his campaign supports that. The similarity of his campaign to tyrannical cults of personality sends chills down my back. The media coverage resembles that of a state-run propaganda machine.

North Korea, Stalin, Saddam and most dramatically the Nazis did this same stuff. It’s scary, Orwellian, and hits a sour note for many Americans.

At the same time, McCain has been cruising along acting like a normal human being, and a good humored one at that. To the press and the political class, that looks like laziness or lack of drive or organization. To a lot of people, it looks like the sort of fellow they might actually trust and respect.

Recycling for a Proffitt

Mon July 28th, 2008 17:42 MST

From National Geographic…

Death…is bad for the environment… toxic… [err.. they told us living was]. An alternative is the green burial movement. [blah] biodegradable [blah] [buried in] land uncluttered by headstones…

Brenda Proffitt…recently bought plots in a green cemetery… “I pretty much live by the reduce, reuse, recycle mantra,” Proffitt says. She likes the idea of returning to ancient, no-frills burial traditions

Ah, no frills traditions like, say, Egyptian pyramids? That’s pretty ancient. Celtic burial mounds? Inca sacrificial burial pits?

At least she’s going to have sacred words spoken over her:

  biodegradable
                         uncluttered
              no-frills
    recycle
                 reuse

It appears that terminal ignorance is a requirement for those of the greenish persuasion.

Environmentalists Kill Asthmatics - For No Good Reason

Sun July 20th, 2008 18:40 MST

Imagine you can hardly breath. There is a monster sitting on your chest. An asthmatic having an attack, you reach for your lifesaving albuterol inhaler.

But it’s not there… an environmentalist has it instead, and won’t give it to you.

You die.

Yep - environmentalists, though the EPA, have banned the generic albuterol inhalers, because they contain CFC’s.

And they don’t even need to do it! In 2010, the patents on non-CFC propellants expire, and generic inhalers will be again be available.

But in 2009, forget it. Asthmatics (or you, through your insurance premiums) will have to pay a lot more for non-generic inhalers.

And, of course, some will choose instead to take the risk.

And die.

That’s modern environmentalism for you - save the planet, but let the people die.

Perspective: Chinese Coal Mine Fires = US Car CO2 Emissions!

Fri July 4th, 2008 13:28 MST

Americans are denounced because our automotive use adds too much CO2 to “global warming”. We are urged to buy smaller (less safe) vehicles, drive less, and invest vast sums in alternative transportation.

Did you know that accidental coal mine fires in China continuously contribute as much CO2 to the atmosphere as all of the cars and light trucks in the US?

US cars emit 333 million tons of CO2 per year (337 in 1999).

Chinese coal mine first contribute about 330 million tons of carbon dioxide each year.
