Dissing the Military

We are at war, and the defenders of our liberty are getting the short end of the stick.

For the first time since the tradition began, the newly inaugurated President failed to attend the ball honoring the Medal of Honor winners. These are Americas heroes, and every President since Truman has seen fit to attend that ball.

Obama failed to do so. I don’t think he meant to offend. Rather, I fear that the utter lack of military experience among his advisors, and his own lack of service, meant he just didn’t get it. Somebody needs to clue these folks in. This also bodes ill for his successful treatment and use of our military forces.

[UPDATE: The following two sentences were based on an incorrect article. I should have known that the NFL, at least, would understand the role of the military!]
And now, the NFL is not letting the Marine Color Guard stay to watch the game. Obviously their priorities are terribly out of place!

[In any case...]

Our popular culture has forgotten our military. The movies (by those Hollywood folks who claim to “support our troops”) paint them as evil. Most Americans have not served. Members of the liberal elite usually don’t even know anyone who has served.

It’s time to resurrect the ethic among the privileged that it is their duty to serve. It is time to restore the idea that their military service would be good for the nation and, importantly, good for themselves. It is time for our elite universities to honor those who serve, rather than trying to run recruiters off campus.

Just who do they think secured and are preserving their liberties and way of life?
