Victor Davis Hanson on the Madrid Bombings

Mon March 15th, 2004 12:13 MST

If you have never read Victor Davis Hanson, you are missing a great source of intelligent thought.

Writing about the Madrid Bombing and the resulting upset defeat of the Anti-Terrorist government:

If the United States went to Afghanistan in 26 days following the murder of 3,000 of its citizens to hunt down their killers and remove the fascists who sponsored them, Spaniards took to the streets with Paz placards and about 48 hours later voted in record numbers to appease the terrorists.

Regime Change by Al Qaeda

Mon March 15th, 2004 00:49 MST

There is no way to interpret Spain’s vote yesterday than as a regime change engineered by Al Qaeda, and a major defeat for the forces of democracy. An Al Qaeda document captured some weeks ago foretold exactly this strategy and outcome.

Spain, to its eternal shame, has chosen the path of appeasement. They have lost 200 citizens to Al Qaeda violence, with many more terribly wounded, and their response is to cave to Al Qaeda’s desires.

In America we feel grief for the victims and their families, but the Spanish voters have demeaned their own dead by surrendering to the killers, and betrayed their own brave soldiers who have served well in Iraq. Clearly Spain has joined Western Europe in its pathetic decadence.

A nation which, when its civilians are attacked, blames its own government and gives in to the attacker deserves no respect from thinking people. Rather, it is an accessory to the murder of its citizens and the murder of many more around the world that will result from their cowardice. The more solid Australians did not cave in when they suffered proportionally more casualties in the Al Qaeda attack in Bali, but the Spanish took only four days to bring out their white flags and wave them for all to see.

Those who choose appeasement often imagine that they are choosing peace. In reality, their actions encourage more violence and more deaths of innocents. We should feel nothing but loathing for those who switched their vote after the Al Qaeda attacks.

Spain has now joined the French as surrender monkeys, for Spain has truly done exactly what the Islamofascists want.. Ironically, tthe Spanish don’t understand that they will be targeted again in any case. Usama Bin Laden long ago listed the reconquest of Spain for Islam as one of his primary goals.

Al Qaeda has demonstrated that it can cause regime change. It will try it again. Thanks to Spain, we can expect massacres to occur in Britain and Italy, and probably in the United States this year.

The Democrats in the United States, by giving every indication that they are weak on terror, are essentially asking Al Qaeda to attack. Kerry may, for a day or two, condemn terrorism and vow to be strong. But he is fooling few with this, as we and Al Qaeda know that he will return to form, espousing policies that would require the acquiescence of the Axis of Cowards. Terrorists understand that this gives them a license to act. They know that Kerry has already been instrumental in causing the United States to surrender to an enemy after losing tens of thousands of soldier. If terrorists were included in voter polls, they would agree with the North Koreans that Kerry is their choice for president.

This latest attack has shown the continued seriousness of this war. However, we can expect the Kerry machine to be back to criticizing the Bush war effort in a way that our enemies want to hear. They will be trying to tear Bush down, lie about his politicies, spread distrust, making untruthful accusations of lying and base motives, and generally showing that they are willing to encourage terrorists if it gains political advantage. In other words, they will be showing that they are not serious about defeating this enemy.

Terrorists understand people like this. They know such people have no core beliefs and hence are fundamentally weak. This knowledge will inform and encourage our enemies.

Sunday was a black day for the forces of good, and a major defeat in the War on Terror.

Friend of Our Enemies…

Fri March 5th, 2004 12:11 MST

When the most despotic regime and one of the most threatening in the world prefers a particular presidential candidate, that should provide a clue as to who not to vote for!

From the Financial Times

North Korea’s state-controlled media are well known for reverential reporting about Kim Jong-il, the country’s dictatorial leader.

But the Dear Leader is not the only one getting deferential treatment from the communist state’s propaganda machine: John Kerry, the presumptive Democratic candidate, is also getting good play in Pyongyang.

In the past few weeks, speeches by the Massachusetts senator have been broadcast on Radio Pyongyang and reported in glowing terms by the Korea Central News Agency (KCNA), the official mouthpiece of Mr Kim’s communist regime.

The Insanity of Bush Haters

Sat February 21st, 2004 22:57 MST

I received the following argument in a mailing list. It shows how far Bush Haters will twist logic in their need to believe he is evil. This was in response to my questioning why Bush was considered a coward and thus was immoral in sending troops to fight, while Clinton was not a coward and it was okay for him to send troops to Kosovo. Read it and laugh (or vomit). By the way, this was from a member of Mensa and a Vietnam Veteran.

It’s not the sending of troops; it’s the refusal to fight in a war that you believe is a just and proper war. Clinton did not believe that Vietnam was a just and proper war, but Bush did–and apparently you do to.

So, Bush’s deliberate avoidance of going to Vietnam is the chicken part; his being a war monger is the hawk part. And with the exception of Rumsfield and Powell, his entire administration and the vast majority of his nationally known political supporters are chicken hawks.

As I not so gently explained to this person, this means that if Bush was against the war when he joined the Guard, then he is not a coward and is now qualified to send people to war. But if he was for the war, he is a coward. Furthermore, it makes 5,500,000 Vietnam Era veterans who did not participate in Vietnam into cowards also. On the other hand, war protesters were not cowards, because they didn’t believe in the war (one may need to use prohibited substances to fully grasp this argument).

I wonder what this makes Kerry… he claimed not to believe in the war, but went anyway and killed people, including civilians. Then he came back and was against the war, testifying falsely before the Senate that Vietnam Vets routinely committed atrocities and were butchers. Then he joined Congress, voted against the first Gulf War, voted for the second gulf war, and is running as an opponent of the war he voted in favor of.

Go figure!

BBC Internal Memo: Saddam Leader, Not Dictator

Sat December 20th, 2003 12:45 MST

In yet another example of how far the great BBC has fallen, a BBC internal memo instructs reporters to call Saddam “the former leader of Iraq” and not to call him a “dictator”. The reason: technically, he was elected. I wonder if they apply the same rule to Hitler, who was also elected?

This is right up there with Reuters’ practice of refusing to call terrorists, well, “terrorists.”

When leading elite news organizations cannot get the most basic nouns right, is it any wonder that Europeans are so poorly informed about world events?

Lakoff Deconstructed

Thu November 20th, 2003 17:59 MST

Blogger John Ray, who in real life is a widely published retired psychologist, deconstructs the theories of George Lakoff, who wrote a book purporting to explain Left/Right polarity of politics as Mother-oriented vs Father-oriented.

I’m not an expert, but that’s enough to set off my nonsense alarm. Anyway, take a peek at Dr. Ray’s latest deconstruction of silly leftist psychological ideas.

John is also putting onilne chapters of his own book on conservativism - “Conservativism As Heresy“. Lots of material there worth reading also!

Poll: One in Three Britons are Stupid

Sun November 16th, 2003 12:12 MST

According to scottsman.com, a new poll shows that one in three Britons are stupid:

More than one in three, 37%, said Mr Bush was “stupid” while 33% called him “incoherent”.

Only a minority saw positive characteristics in Mr Bush, with just 7% regarding him as a good world leader, 6% as articulate and 10% as intelligent.

What this really shows is the high level of anti-American propaganda that Europeans are subjected to - even our fellow anglophones.

Dean: Do As I Say, Not As I Do

Sat November 8th, 2003 16:28 MST

Har Har…. Dean is rejecting federal funds because he doesn’t want to fall under that campaign finance laws! So much for the “principled” stand of the Democrats and their RINO buddy John McCain!

The main purpose of campaign finance laws is incumbent protection! Otherwise they would never have passed. A horrible side effect is to remove our most important First Amendment rights - the right to free speech on political issues!

If you own a TV station, you can say what you want about a political candidate. If you don’t, you are prohibited by law from buying time from that station to say something!

Will the national press say much about this hypocrisy and the failure of campaign finance reform?

Don’t count on it!
